Privacy Policy

Who we are

Verinet is operated by Verinet Technologies Private Limited, a company registered in India ("Verinet", "we", "us"). This policy explains how we handle your personal data when you use our website or mobile application (the "Service"). It is written to align with India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (the "DPDP Act").

Data we collect

We collect only what we need to run the Service:

  • Identity & verification: full name, work email, Indian mobile number, and the company domain extracted from your work email.
  • Profile: gender, age, occupation, languages, vibe tags, food preference, work style, room-sharing preference, budget, and an optional bio and profile photo.
  • Listings: photos, rent, locality, amenities, and flatmate preferences you publish.
  • Conversations: messages exchanged with users you have connected with, processed through Stream Chat.
  • Technical: device type, IP address, approximate location derived from IP, and usage logs needed for security and abuse prevention.

How we use your data

  • Verify that you are a real working professional at an allowlisted company.
  • Match you with flats and flatmates that fit your stated preferences.
  • Keep the platform safe: detect fake accounts, block abusive behaviour, enforce our Terms of Service.
  • Send essential transactional emails and SMS (OTPs, connection notifications, account alerts). We do not send marketing emails without separate consent.

Lawful basis for processing

We rely on your consent (collected at signup), the necessity of processing for performance of our service to you, and our legitimate interest in maintaining a secure, trusted community.

What stays hidden by default

Other users only see your initial, gender, vibe tags, and the logo of your verified employer. Your real name, phone number, profile photo, and the specific name of your employer remain hidden until you both tap Connect and the other side accepts. We never expose your work email to other users.

Data retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account we erase your profile, listings, and chat history within 30 days, except for a small set of records we are legally required to keep (for example, proof that a connection request was withdrawn, kept for up to 90 days for safety investigations).

Your rights under the DPDP Act

You have the right to:

  • Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct any inaccurate or out-of-date data.
  • Erase your data by deleting your account.
  • Withdraw consent for any processing that relies on consent.
  • Nominate another individual to exercise these rights on your behalf in case of incapacity or death.
  • File a grievance with us, and if unresolved, with the Data Protection Board of India.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@verinet.in.

Third-party processors

We share the minimum personal data needed with vetted processors who handle it on our behalf under contract:

  • Resend for transactional email delivery.
  • Stream Chat for messaging between connected users.
  • Cloudinary for hosting profile and listing photos.
  • Vercel for hosting the website and basic privacy-safe analytics.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers or data brokers.

Cookies

We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and protect your account. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

Security

Passcodes are hashed; data in transit is encrypted with TLS; production systems are access-controlled and logged. No system is perfectly secure, so we encourage you to choose a unique passcode and report anything suspicious to admin@verinet.in.

Children

Verinet is intended for users aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes we will notify you in-app or by email before the change takes effect. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
